Buying your first motorhome can be a daunting decision to make, with so many different manufacturers, layouts, styles and options available it can send you dizzy just at the thought of it!!!

Within this guide we aim to simplify the meanings and commonly used names for Motorhomes. Firstly we have the Chassis (Base vehicle) on which each motorhome would be based.

Guide to Motorhome manufacturers

Fiat

The most popular vehicle/engine manufacturer for Motorhomes over the last 15 years has been Fiat, this is a fantastic vehicle with excellent car like driving characteristics, amazing fuel economy and an excellent Camper assistance aftersales service network. A great range of engines available to suit all sizes of Motorhomes.

Peugeot

This tends to be the most popular vehicle / engine manufacturer with British motorhome manufacturers and has many similarities with the Fiat base vehicles.

Ford Transit

A great commercial vehicle from a trusted commercial vehicle manufacturer, with a range of engine options.

Other Vehicle manufacturers include – Volkswagen, Mercedes, Renault, Iveco

Categories of motorhomes

Motorhomes are available in all kinds of shapes and sizes, they are put into the following catergories;

Panel Van

This is a standard commercial van that has had the interior fitted with a motorhome and usually with have had a hightop or elevating roof fitted to it. These vehicles are normally best for use as a second car or if you want a smaller vehicle.

Coachbuilt

This is a purpose built motorhome using only the cab of the donor vehicle. The manufactuer then builds the motorhome on the rear of the body, this method allows a host of options and layouts to be used. Each manufacturer will use the chassis differently and may alter the rear chassis to an Alko chassis dependant on length or weight required. Coachbuilt Motorhomes are available in Highline – Bed over the cab (Luton style) or Low Profile – Streamline body with small storage over the cab.

A-Class / Integral

These are Motorhomes that are built all in one, the manufactuer starts with an engine a steering wheel and a chassis and builds the Motorhome around it. This style normally allows for a low drop down bed to come down above the driver and passenger seat and is available in a range of lengths, wheelbases and sizes

We keep a huge range of New and Used Motorhomes in stock at any one time and there is always plenty of options to view on our forecourt. Any of our friendly sales team are on hand to offer any advise or help with any question you may have.

Second Hand Motorhomes

We stock a great range of quality assured used vehicles, when purchasing a used motorhome it is important to take in to account the condition and use that the second hand motorhome has had. Many people get caught in the trap of thinking that a used motorhome has done low mileage so therefore it must be in fantastic condition, this is not always the case. Remember that Motorhomes are used differently to cars and could have driven 2000 miles to Spain, lived in for 5 years and driven 2000 miles back home. It is always worth looking at the full picture and look at the combination of Manufacturer, Layout, Age, Condition, Mileage.
